A resolver is an electromagnetic transducer that converts the angular position of a rotor into an electrical variable.
Measurement of the angular position of electric motors in:
- Rudder systems for ships
- Control elements in chemical plant engineering

- Servomotors
Two stator windings, arranged offset by 90° in a cylindrical housing, enclose a rotor mounted in the housing with the rotor winding. This rotor winding inductively couples a signal into the stator winding. The phase position of this signal is a measure of the angular position of the rotor.
