Thermocouples

The properties of thermocouples make them suitable for use in chemical plants, power stations, pipelines, in engine construction and on test benches. The thermocouple wires are embedded in pressed refractory magnesium oxide in the flexible, thin-walled sheathed cable. The thermocouples are insulated against the sheath as standard. Thermocouples in accordance with DIN EN 60 584 or DIN 43 710 are inserted in the measuring insert. Versions with two thermocouples are also possible.

  • For temperatures from -200 to +1150 °C
  • Flexible sheathed cable with vibration-resistant measuring insert
  • Protective tube diameter from 0.5 mm
  • Rapid response time
  • Application-specific installation length

In an electrical circuit with conductors consisting of two different metals and connection points with different temperatures, a voltage difference arises, referred to as “thermoelectric voltage”. The magnitude of this voltage depends on the temperature difference between the two connection points and on the material combination of the conductors. It is only possible to measure the difference between the “cold” and “hot” connection point. The cold point must therefore be kept at a constant temperature. This takes place using a thermostat. It usually maintains the reference junction at 50 °C ± 0.1 °C and is generally integrated into an electronic connection that has additional functions: Digital display of the temperature, linearisation of the relationship between thermoelectric voltage and temperature difference, and generation of an output voltage proportional to the thermoelectric voltage.
